Overview
"The Magical Realms of Tír na nÓg: Escape from Necron 7 – Revenge of Cuchulainn: The Official Game of the Movie – Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa" was a title formerly being developmed for PC by Tales of Game's Studios. Originally planned for a late 2013 release, it was pushed back a number of times, with Tales of Game's eventually giving the questionably-joking release date of November 11, 2023. It was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign, which raised over $120,000; well over it's initial goal of $35,000. Its story would follow an amnesiac young man named X114JAM9 as he searches across the Post-Cyberpocalyptic Wasteland to find the Cyberdwarf and shut down the tyrannical A.I. Cuchulainn.
On June 11, 2021, paperjack, a developer with Tales of Game's, posted a development update on a 2019 demo of the game, via the developer's official itch.io account. In the blog post, paperjack described the title's numerous development troubles, including the team having mostly run out of budget and the game's code becoming impenetrably complicated due to numerous reworks over the years. The blog post concludes by stating that "B2 [has] no future as it is right now", effectively cancelling the game's development for the foreseeable future. Alongside the post, Tales of Game's released all of the game's assets, making them open-source.
Gameplay
Unlike Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden, which was a turn-based RPG, Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa was planned as a mouse-controlled action RPG with weapon fusion elements, said to take inspiration from the Shin Megami Tensei series. Additionally, while "Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden" was a freeware game making liberal use of assets from other games, celebrity likenesses, and copyrighted characters, Tales of Game's Studios intended Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa to be an online retail product, featuring entirely original assets and limited-to-no use of celebrity likenesses to avoid legal complications.
