Overview

Super QIX

Super Qix is an action-puzzle game developed by Taito (along with Kaneko) and released by Taito (Romstar in North America) for arcades in March 1987.

The third installment of the Qix series, Super Qix changes the original game's formula in multiple ways, including power-up pickups (such as speed boost, shields, and enemy freezing), one-button controls (with no "Fast" or "Slow" draws), and the ability to backtrack a draw. The myriad of lines, known as the Qix, is replaced with a line of monsters that change position and size in an unpredictable fashion. Claimed areas now reveal a picture underneath, with the picture animating in full once the round is cleared.

Kaneko later used the engine for the eroge spin-off Gals Panic, which focused on revealing a silhouette on the playfield instead of just claiming areas. That game later received its own series, changing the standard Qix gameplay in multiple ways.
