Raiden II is a sci-fi vertical-scrolling shoot-'em-up developed and released by Seibu Kaihatsu (along with Fabtek in the North America release) for arcades in 1993.
The sequel to the 1990 game Raiden, Raiden II puts players into an updated form of the "Raiden" fighter craft (known as the "Raiden II", and in later series as the "Raiden mk-II") as they fight a resurgence of the alien invasion three years after the original invasion.
Along with the standard Vulcan (red) and Laser (blue), players now have access to a third primary weapon: Plasma (purple). By continuously shooting with Plasma, the fighter craft can fire a continuous plasma beam that locks onto targets. The game also introduces an alternate special attack, which launches a cluster bomb.
The game later received an enhanced update, titled Raiden DX. It was also bundled with the original in the 1995 PS1 compilation The Raiden Project, and was ported by Kinesoft for Windows PCs on June 6, 1997.
