The Behemoth is an independent console game developer that specializes in making collectible games that are fun to play and beautiful to look at. Founded in 2003 by veteran console developers and headed by Tom Fulp, John Baez, and Dan Paladin, the Behemoth is headquartered in San Diego, California. The company's preferred genre seems to be classic action side-scrollers.
Its games are signatured by the comical art style of Dan Paladin, the featured artist for the company. Dan designs the games graphics completely on his own, giving his games a very unique (and comedic) appearance, sometimes with the use of heavy graphical violence (i.e. in Alien Hominid, the player can literally bite his enemies' heads off).
Alien Hominid was the Behemoth's first game. A challenging side-scrolling shooter, where the Alien takes place stranded on planet Earth, trying to find his way back home.
Its latest game, Castle Crashers, was released in August, 2008 on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The game has received numerous accolades and tells the tale of 4 knights off to save princesses in a comical fashion.
The announcement trailer for the company's third game was released March 17th, 2009. It showed that the game is planned to be released in 2010 and will feature co-operative and competitive platforming gameplay. On February 1, 2010, a second trailer was released, this time revealing the title of the game, BattleBlock Theater, and the story for its campaign mode: You and your best friend Hatty become shipwrecked on an island. However, Hatty soon betrays you and he and the locals force you into deadly performances.
The Behemoth is also known as being the guys who run Newgrounds.com, a user-generated and community-driven website filled with Flash movies and games, from which Alien Hominid originated from.
